dc.description The researcher purposes of this research is to know how the characterization of the main characters and how they deal with the problem that can influence the way the main characters deal with and solve the problems which experienced by the min the novel A Tale of Two Cities by CharlesDickens. There search objects were the main characters in the noe Charles Darnay, Sydney Carton, and Lucie Manette, as the focus of the study. The problems facb the main character, whe the rexternalor internal conflicts, and how the relationships between the semain characters can influence the way they deal with and solve their problems become the limitation ofthe research. Inanalyzing the problem identification,this study use da characterzationand conflictapproach from Schirova. In his theory,Schirova says the characterition is of four kinds, and each character has its own characterization based on their character and conflict experienced by the character, as well as how the conflictrelated each other, how they resolve those conflicts and how they developt. Based on the story in the novel A Tale of Two Cities which is also analyzed by the researcher,it appears that the conflicts are related between the main characters and also with other characters which lead to the resolution of their conflicts. en_US
