Abstract:
This research with the title “A SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF THE ENOLA HOLMES MOVIE (2020) & ENOLA HOLMES 2 SEQUEL MOVIE (2022) USING CHARLES SANDERS PEIRCE’S SEMIOTIC THEORY” aims to find out the form of icons, indexes, and symbols represented in the Enola Holmes Movie (2020) & Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022). This research delves into the symbolic universe of the Enola Holmes Movie (2020) & Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022) by employing Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive approach, meticulously dissecting the films to identify and analyze the forms of icons, indexes, and symbols in this movie. This research data was collected from Enola Holmes Movie (2020) & Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022). Researchers concentrate on the icons, indexes, and symbols used in the Enola Holmes Movie (2020) and Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022). Researchers concluded that there were more icons and index signs in Enola Holmes Movie (2020) and Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022) compared to the symbols found by researchers. Through this analysis, the research identified a total of forty one icons, forty one indexes, and twenty two symbols found in the Enola Holmes Movie (2020) & Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022). There are twenty two icons, twenty two indexes, and twelve symbols in Enola Holmes Movie (2020). Meanwhile, in Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022) there are nineteen icons, nineteen indexes, and nine symbols. So it can be concluded that there are more signs (icons, indexes, and symbols) in Enola Holmes Movie (2020) than Enola Holmes 2 Sequel Movie (2022). The successful identification and interpretation of such a substantial number of signs (forty one icons, forty one indexes, and twenty one symbols) serves as a strong testament to the effectiveness of Peirce's semiotic theory in unlocking the symbolic language of the movie.
